PascoC_Putting_2250030Sixth through eighth graders are fortunate to have Dr. John Long Middle School as the school Seven Oaks preteens attend. The school is one of only a few Florida public middle schools to rank 9 out of 10 on

The school offers students a complete array of extracurricular activities, including band, chorus, dance, orchestra, art, and theater. Students also can take part in one of many sports offered, including football, soccer, basketball, cheerleading, track, baseball, softball and volleyball. And other special programs include a great media department, a newspaper, debate, and student council. The school also participates in “Trash to Treasure,” an involved recycling program complete with contests.

Dr. John Long Middle School has consistently earned an A from the state of Florida. FCAT scores at JLMS have beaten the state average in every category for the past several years. Parent reviews focus largely on teachers and how much they care for the students’ education.

Parents are extremely active and involved with the school, planning activities and also able to keep up with their children’s grades online. Also, the school uses innovative, interesting teaching strategies that involve the family, such as March’s “One Book, One Community” project, where all students and families read the same book, and teachers in every subject use extension activities in their lessons to enrich the reading experience. Then all families celebrate at a culminating event with students’ projects displayed and the author visiting and signing copies of the book.

Parents of students at Dr. John Long Middle School have only good things to say about the school:

  • “I have been very pleased with the administration, faculty and staff. They are amazing. Although the school is large, they still strive to meet both the academic and social needs of the students, and have been very successful! It is definitely the best middle school in the county!”
  • “I love this school. I think it has great teachers! Go mustangs! You guys set the pace!”
  • “I believe Dr. John Long Middle School is a good school because my child attends the school and there are not any fights, there are good teachers, and it has very good after-school programs.”
