The most popular time throughout the year to purchase a home is typically spring or summer. But a recent Nerdwallet study shows that the winter definitely has its perks—especially considering spring and summer offers more competition and higher prices.

A few reasons Nerdwallet cites for buying your home in the winter:

• Prices are likely at their lowest. Realtor.com data showed that home sale prices are 8.45 percent lower in January and February than in June through August.

• Less competition. Last year, twice as many people were buying homes in June compared to January.

Mortgage rates are likely at their lowest. In 2017, mortgage rates are expected to be at their lowest now, at the beginning of the year.
